Safety Topics and
Maximum Availability

July+2026

You must read, and certify that you have read, the following safety topics in order to obtain shifts.

  1. Remember, if you are sick, STAY HOME! Contact us through When I Work to cancel a shift.

  2. Review and understand the lightning alert system used by Mammoth Mountain. If lightning is less than 8 miles away, all lifts and activities will shut down until there has been at least 15 minutes of inactivity. Scenic rides are suspended when lightning is detected between 8 to 12 miles away.

  3. When out in the open during a thunderstorm, protect yourself by avoiding single trees and rock overhangs. Make yourself as small as possible if you are out in a field.

  4. Slips and falls make up many of the injuries seen in the ER. Keep your eyes open for uneven surfaces and obstacles. Remember, rushing is recipe for disaster and makes you much more prone to get hurt – your safety is our number one priority!

  5. Bears and other wildlife are active now. Be cautious of migrating deer all over our area while you drive. Keep your cars clean of food litter and locked. Lock all trash dumpsters after using them. Help keep wildlife wild!

  6. Drink plenty of water to counteract high altitude dehydration.

  7. Sunscreen is critical all year long. If there is any chance you will be outside, always wear sunscreen on any exposed skin. Even better – wear protective clothing. Be sure to protect your eyes too. Too many of our Hosts and Naturalists have suffered from sun damage, requiring even more diligence.

  8. If you see something that seems out of place or odd, bring it up with others – “See Something, Say Something!” Inform Operations on your radio by calling 545 or by using your phone to call the emergency number, 760-934-0611.
